Method:
o
I used IP to make
this rice. We can also make it in pressure cooker too.
o
In saute mode
heat the oil/ ghee, add cumin seeds and let it crackle. To this add chopped
onion, garlic, ginger, bay leaves, cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, carrot and saute
for 2-3 mins.
o
To this add the
soaked and drained masoor dal and the basmati rice, give a mix. Saute for 2-3
mins.
o
Add the powders
and give a good mix and saute for couple more mins.
o
Add 3 cups of
water, salt, lemon juice and pressure cook the rice in Pressure cook mode for 7
mins.
o
After the rice
was pressure cooked for 7 mins I let it stay for 8 mins and released the
pressure. Open the lid and Fluff the rice.
o
Before serving
add fried onion and cilantro and garnish the dish. Goes well with raita.
Note: If
cooking in pressure cooker, one whistle and simmer for 3-4 mins and put off the
stove.
