Toor Dal

Method
1. Wash rice and
dal together and drain and set aside.
2. Heat a ghee/oil
in a pan, add cumin seeds and fry for few seconds. Now add the whole spices
one by one and fry not more than a minute. The heat on low to medium.
3. Add finely
chopped onion and fry for 2-3 minutes. Add grated ginger and fry for 2
minutes.
Note: At this point you can add
turmeric powder and garam masala and fry for a minute.
4. Now add the
washed rice and dal and fry for 2-3 minutes.
5. Cook the Kichidi
in a pressure cooker by adding 3 cups of water. If you want it more mushy add
some extra water. Add salt while cooking the kichidi. Cook till 3 whistles.
6. Serve hot
kichidi garnished with coriander leaves.
