Hayagreeva Maddi / Chana Dal Sweet
Traditional
Udupi dessert normally known as Hayagreeva or Hayagreeva Maddi. This dish is
cooked using chana dal and jaggery. You can either cook dal mushy or let the
dal stay in shape. Easy to cook and delicious in taste.

Chana Dal
Jaggery
Desiccated Coconut
Cashews
Raisins
Ghee
Cardamom Powder (Optional)

Method
1. Cook chana dal
with double the quantity of water in a pressure cooker.
2. Now in a heavy
bottomed pan mix the cooked chana dal and jaggery. Cook both till the jaggery
melts.
3. Heat ghee in a
pan and fry the cashews to light golden in color. Just add the raisins when
you switch off the heat after roasting cashewnuts.
4. Add the dry
fruits and combine well. Add coconut and cardamom powder mix well. Cook for
1-2 minutes and put off the stove.
5. Serve Hayagreeva
with ghee on top.
