Split Green Gram Khichadi
North Indian Pongal J Split Green Gram makes Khichadi quite tasty.
This is a lip smacking one pot meal cooked with Rice, Split green gram, garam
masala, whole spices. Serve with Boondi Raita or Khadi Pakodi, Papad and
Pickle.

Ingredients

Rice / Basmati Rice
Split green Gram
Onion
Grated Ginger
Garam Masala
Turmeric Powder
Cloves
Cinnamon

Cumin seeds
Oil + Ghee

1. Chop onion finely.
2. Heat oil and ghee in a cooker pan. When hot, add cumin seeds and as soon
as it crackles add cloves and cinnamon.
4. Add split green gram and fry for 3-4 minutes. Add turmeric powder and
garam masala and fry for a minute.
5. Now add rice and fry for 2 minutes.
6. Pour 4 cups of water and add salt, close the cooker. Cook for 3 -4
whistles or till your rice gets done.
7. Serve the khichadi hot.
Note: Level of water depends on how you
want to cook the rice. If you want it mushy add another cup of water and cook
the rice. If I use basmati rice I use 2.5-2.75 cup of water. If I use sona
masoori rice I use almost 3- 3.5 cups of water for a cup of rice, so it
depends.
