Udupi style Tomato Saaru is based on Udupi
style Rasam/ Sarina Pudi. Try out for that Udupi taste at home. Make sure you
have Udupi Rasam powder!

Toor Dal
Tomato
Tamarind Pulp
Jaggery
Turmeric Powder
Green Chilli
Milk
Curry Leaves

Mustard

Asafetida

Method
1. Cook toor dal and tomato in the pressure cooker
and set it aside.
2. Pour glasses of water in a vessel, add turmeric
powder, salt, jaggery and green chilli and let it boil.
3. Mash the pressure cooked tomato.
4. Let the tamarind mixture boil nicely. To this add
the dal and mashed tomato. Add water and bring it to desired consistency.
Bring this to boil.
5. To this add milk and let boil again. Add curry
leaves too.
6. Add Saarina Pudi / Rasam Powder.
7. Allow it to boil. Taste check. Boil for 5-6
minutes and put off the stove.
8. Make the seasoning with ghee and pour over and
garnish with coriander leaves.
