Cracked Wheat Idli / Godhi Kadi Idly
Cracked
wheat / Broken wheat / Godhi kadi idli’s are filling and also tasty. Try out
adding spinach or any veggies which go with your taste buds. I normally roast
the cracked wheat while making these idli’s. You can also powder cracked
wheat a little if you want the idli to be more soft (because the broken wheat
is normally coarse)

Urad Dal
Roasted Cracked Wheat
Bengal Gram
Cumin Seeds
Chopped Spinach Leaves
Oil

Method
1. Soak urad dal for 3-4 hours.
2. Drain the water and grind urad dal to smooth
batter.
3. Mix the roasted cracked wheat and grind for a
minute with urad dal.
4. Make to idli batter consistency.
5. Let it ferment.
6. Take required quantity of batter and add salt.
7. In a separate pan heat a little oil and season
with cumin seeds and Bengal gram. Add chopped spinach leaves a sauté for 4-5
minutes.
8. Switch the stove off and add the sautéed mixture
to the batter and mix well.
9. Pour the batter in the idli mould and steam them
for 15-20 minutes.
10. Serve hot idli’s with chutney and sambar.
Note: Chopped carrots and peas can also
be added to the batter apart from spinach. You can also just make idli’s
without mixing anything.
