Avarekalu Saaru
Avarekalu is a Kannada word of a bean. This bean
is a Winter Delight in Bengaluru. Varity of dishes are made using this bean.
Usually found in Indian grocery store in a frozen
section named as Surti papdi lilva.

Toor Dal / Togari Bele
Tomato
Grated Fresh Coconut
Tamarind Pulp
Jaggery
Salt

Method
1.
Cook Avarekalu, tomato and dal in the pressure cooker adding
2 cups of water.

In a small blender jar, grind coconut (fresh/frozen) and
cooked tomato into a fine paste.
3.
In a cooking pan, add the pressure cooked avarekalu, tamarind,
jaggery, salt and ground coconut paste. Add 1-2 cups of water. Add more water
for thinner consistency if required.
4.
Let it boil.
5.
Add Rasam Powder. Let it boil for 5 more minutes.
6.
Lastly season with mustard and cumin seeds.
7.
Garnish with curry leaves and coriander leaves.
8. Serve it with rice.
